Card Sorting & Whiteboarding in Action

In preparation for transitioning the SnapAV website to a new code platform, our team engaged in a comprehensive redesign of its information architecture. This effort aimed to make the site more intuitive and user-friendly for professional AV installers and integrators. By employing a combination of card sorting and collaborative whiteboarding sessions, we organized and prioritized content to create a seamless navigation experience tailored to user needs.

Design and Thought Process

The project involved two critical methodologies: card sorting and whiteboarding sessions. Card sorting allowed us to dive into how users naturally grouped and categorized information, offering valuable insights into their mental models. This process ensured that the site's structure reflected the workflows and priorities of SnapAV's primary audience.

Whiteboarding sessions were equally essential, fostering collaboration and creativity among stakeholders. These sessions provided a platform for brainstorming ideas, testing potential information flows, and visually mapping out user journeys and site architecture. Together, these approaches enabled us to develop an information framework that balanced user needs with business objectives, ensuring a clear, intuitive, and efficient experience for SnapAV's users. This process highlighted the value of combining analytical and creative tools to achieve a user-centered design.
